Charlotte / Lake Norman

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the 17th largest in the United States. The city is a major U.S. financial center and is home to the Charlotte Panthers (NFL), Charlotte Bobcats (NBA), Carowinds amusement park, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Located roughly 20 miles northwest of Charlotte is North Carolina’s largest man-made lake, Lake Norman. Created between 1959-1964, the lake was part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam and is fed by the Catawba River. This popular gaming area also hosts the International Jet Sport Boats Association, the Lake Norman Yacht Club, and a campus at Davidson College.
